Barcode technology is typically comprised of vertical black bars that represent data. The black bars or data varies in width and spacing which allows the information to be read. This type of barcode is referred to as one-dimensional or 1D. Later, two-dimensional or 2D barcodes were developed. This particular barcode uses squares, dots and other shapes that represent the data. Although there are two different types of barcodes, they are read or scanned by the same type of barcode readers.
With a basic printer, barcode scanner and software, any business can use barcode technology.
